QuickBooks alternatives for GST and VAT compliance

QuickBooks is a capable general ledger with a long history, and the complaint from Indian and Gulf users is rarely about the accounting. It is that the monthly compliance work — GSTR-1, the 2B reconciliation, the rejections — happens beside the software rather than inside it.

The short verdictREAD THIS FIRST

Look at tBiz if…

  • GST or VAT compliance is a monthly job and you want the software to do it.
  • You hold stock with batches, serials or multiple warehouses.
  • You want payroll and HR in the same system as the ledger.
  • You run entities in both India and the UAE.

Look elsewhere if…

  • Your accountant’s familiarity with QuickBooks is worth more than the gap.
  • You consolidate with overseas group companies already on QuickBooks.
  • You need Arabic invoicing — Wafeq or Zoho, not us.
  • You are a services business with no stock to speak of.

What the realistic alternatives actually are

Zoho Books — strongest general replacement

Cloud, well made, with proper GST return work and Arabic invoicing for the Gulf. The limit is the same one it always has: stock depth and manufacturing thin out, and payroll and CRM are separate products.

Wafeq — if you are purely UAE

Built for the Gulf, bilingual, and comfortable for an Arabic-speaking finance team. Not the answer if you hold real inventory or have an Indian arm.

Tally or Busy — if you are purely India

Deep GST handling and serious trading features, at the cost of the desktop model and per-seat licensing.

tBiz — compliance plus stock, both markets

GST return work table by table with a pre-filing readiness check, UAE VAT 201 box by box, and inventory, manufacturing, payroll and CRM in the same product. We do not print Arabic invoices and we do not transmit e-invoices yet.

Questions about leaving QuickBooks

Why do Indian businesses leave QuickBooks?

Because GST compliance is monthly and mostly happens outside the software. Producing GSTR-1 table by table, reconciling against the GSTR-2B and catching the errors that cause rejections is where the time goes, and a general-purpose ledger leaves that work to you.

What is the best QuickBooks alternative for the UAE?

Wafeq if you need Arabic and have little stock; tBiz if you hold inventory or have an Indian entity as well. Both produce the VAT 201; only Wafeq prints bilingual Arabic invoices.

Can I keep my chart of accounts?

Broadly yes. The chart, parties, items and opening balances import from CSV, and it is worth taking the opportunity to prune it rather than carrying twenty years of unused heads across.

Does tBiz file returns with the authorities?

No. It computes the return from your books, checks it, and exports the JSON the portal accepts. Filing happens on the portal with your own credentials, which is a deliberate choice about who holds your login.

Moving off QuickBooks

Chart of accounts, parties, items and opening balances export as CSV. Move at a period boundary and keep QuickBooks as the archive for closed years.

Compare on a real month

Import a month of invoices and bills and run the GST or VAT return in both. That is the comparison that decides it.
