Vyapar does one thing well and cheaply — it gets a small business billing on a phone in an afternoon, and for a shop with a few hundred invoices a month that is genuinely the right answer. This page is about the point where it stops being the right answer.

A billing app produces a sales register and a purchase register. It does not produce a trial balance that ties, a balance sheet, or cost centres — so the accounting work gets done again, outside the software, once a quarter.
Stock held in one place is a number. Stock held in three is a system, with transfers, per-location reorder levels and the question of where to sell from. That is the transition most businesses make without noticing until a stock count goes badly.
Attendance, statutory deductions and a salary journal that posts to the ledger are not a billing problem, and a spreadsheet answers them until roughly the tenth employee.
Getting started, and cost. If you are one person billing from a phone, tBiz is more product than you need, and honestly saying so is more useful than pretending otherwise.
Usually at one of three moments: when your CA starts rebuilding your accounts outside the software, when stock is held in more than one place, or when you start paying salaries. Any one of them means the billing app is now the smaller half of the job.
It asks more of you at setup — a chart of accounts, warehouses, a numbering policy — because it is doing more. Day-to-day billing is comparable, and the Android app covers the same ground.
Parties, items and opening balances, by CSV. Transaction history is usually better left where it is and started fresh from a period boundary.
Yes. Every document posts a balanced voucher to the general ledger, and the trial balance, profit and loss and balance sheet are computed from those postings rather than summarised from the sales register.
Parties, items and balances come across as CSV. Most people move at a financial year boundary, which makes the change clean and the comparatives easy.
Start free, import your parties and items, and open the new year on books that will still make sense in five.
