People look for a Tally alternative for three reasons, and they lead to three different products: the licence is counted per seat, the data lives on one machine, or the business now needs payroll and CRM too. Work out which one is yours before you shortlist anything.

The strongest general-purpose cloud alternative, with an excellent interface and a large app ecosystem. It thins out where stock gets serious: multi-warehouse, batch tracking and manufacturing sit in higher plans or separate products, and payroll and CRM are separate subscriptions.
If what you like about Tally is that it is a desktop product built for Indian trading, these are the closest relatives. Busy suits distribution and wholesale; Marg is deeply entrenched in pharma. Both keep the per-seat licence and the single-location problem you may be leaving.
Fast, cheap, and genuinely right for a one- or two-person business that bills from a phone. They are not accounting systems: your CA will still rebuild the books at period end, which is fine until it is not.
Built for the case where the accounting was never the problem: the books are fine, but there are three locations, twenty users and a payroll, and they are in four systems. The honest caveat is filing — we prepare and validate e-invoices and e-way bills but do not yet transmit them.
It depends which problem you are solving. For seats and locations, a cloud product like tBiz or Zoho Books; for a desktop trading system, Busy or Marg; for simple billing, Vyapar or myBillBook. There is no single best answer, and anyone who gives you one without asking what you run is selling.
Masters, opening balances and Day Book vouchers generally move. Itemised transaction history usually does not, in any product — which is why most migrations happen at a financial year boundary and keep the Tally file as the archive for closed years.
The risks are different rather than larger: you trade the risk of one office PC failing for the risk of a connection failing, and you gain backups and access control you would otherwise have to arrange yourself. A business with genuinely unreliable internet should stay on a desktop product.
Most will, given exports in Excel and a proper trial balance. Some insist on a Tally company file, and if yours does that is a real constraint to settle before you shortlist anything.
Masters and opening balances move easily; transaction history rarely does. Most businesses move at a year end and keep the old file as an archive — and that is the right answer for any of the products above.
Import your masters into tBiz free and compare it against your real books rather than a demo company.
