IRN

An IRN, or Invoice Reference Number, is a 64-character hash returned by the GST Invoice Registration Portal when an invoice is successfully reported under e-invoicing.

GSTIN

A GSTIN is the 15-character identification number issued to every person registered under GST in India.

HSN code

An HSN code is an internationally standardised number that classifies goods for customs and tax purposes.

SAC code

A SAC code is the classification used to identify services under GST, in the same way an HSN code identifies goods.

Place of supply

Place of supply is the location where a supply is treated as having been made under GST, and it determines which tax applies: when the place of supply is in the same state as the supplier, CGST and SGST are charged, and when it is in a different state, IGST is charged instead.

Input tax credit

Input tax credit is the GST you have paid on goods and services bought for your business, which you set off against the GST you collect on your sales so that tax is only borne on the value you add.

Bill of supply

A bill of supply is the document a registered person issues instead of a tax invoice when no GST is being charged — principally for exempt supplies and by taxpayers registered under the composition scheme.

Debit note

A debit note is a document issued to increase the value or the tax of a supply that has already been invoiced — typically when the original invoice understated the price, the quantity or the rate of tax.

Credit note

A credit note is a document issued by a supplier to reduce the value or the tax of a supply already invoiced — because goods were returned, a discount was agreed, or the original invoice overstated the price or the tax.

TRN

A TRN, or Tax Registration Number, is the 15-digit number issued by the UAE Federal Tax Authority to identify a person registered for VAT.

Bill of materials

A bill of materials is a structured list of the components, quantities and expected wastage required to produce one unit of a finished product.

Voucher

An accounting voucher is the record of one transaction in a double-entry system: which accounts were debited, which were credited, for how much, on what date and with what narration.
